the united way is holding a community work day on august 23rd. i know this is a while away, but i wanted to give everyone ample time to plan. the idea is to get a group together to complete community projects. these are one-day projects and are a great way to start volunteering without a huge committment--it's just one day!!! tona turner, the united way director, can provide you with a questionnaire to determine the kind of project your group would enjoy/be best at completing.

the goal is to provide volunteer labor to non-profits. the organizations provide the materials and supervision--you just have to show up! there are opportunities indoors or outdoors, for children or adults, painting, gardening, decorating, construction--tons of stuff! kathy vieyra is coordinating the event, so you can contact her or tona for info at 669-9329.

you can form a group from church, friends, family, etc. i'm trying to get a group together from my workplace, but i'm not having much luck. maybe we could form a WUH group. it would be a cool way to involve lots of different age groups, and meet people who post here. what do you think?
