Thursday night I wanted to go to the first Third Thursday event downtown and also to the lecture at the library. I managed to make it to both.

It looked like things were going well downtown, but I didn't get to stay very long. But people were out and about and seemed to be having a good time. Congrats to Jennifer Randall for getting this off the ground. I hope we're able to enjoy it for a long time to come.

I left there to go to the lecture at the library by Jerry Shaw of the Osage Nation. He spoke about a number of issues facing Native Americans and then he and his wife shared some of their family's collection of antique textiles.

I have to confess I know NOTHING about textiles other than they can be pretty colors. But it was a fascinating evening. You can see pix on my blog if you're interested. http://www.patsyterrell.com/2008/08/osage-nation-traditional-textiles.html. I know Bob can't be everywhere, although I did see him downtown - he gets around!

More than 50 people came to the lecture, which I find pretty amazing for something as esoteric as antique Native American textiles. It looked to me like there was a very good turnout downtown for the music and art.

All of this is to say - I was very impressed with the choices people could make Thursday night for FREE activities in Hutchinson. I think that's pretty darned cool. Art, music, and a lecture all on one night - that seems like a pretty broad spectrum to choose from to me - offering something to most people who want to get out and about for an event. I believe there was a sporting event going on, too, so it would seem we've covered a wide range of interests in one evening.

Patsy,

Those are awesome pics on your blog!!!

That was an event that I would have liked to have made it to. I really hope that people are starting to realize that it is never safe to say "There is nothing to do in Hutch"

What do you think?

Thanks, Cody... They were going so fast I was afraid I wasn't going to have any pix. There is plenty to do in Hutch for lots of activities. I always want people to say what it is that they're missing. What do they want as far as activities? The only thing I can ever get out of people is "nightlife," which, when I ask for details, seems to be a buzz word for hanging out in bars until the wee hours every night. Hutch might be a little lacking in that department - I can't say since that has never been my thing. Other than that, I'm curious what people are missing. I know a city this size can't provide everything, but there seems to be a lot going on to me.

Thanks for the reminder and I'm so glad more businesses are going to be open. We'll be there. Last time I sent my husband down to pick some things up at Smiths Market while I hit an antique store and was disappointed when I went to meet him there and it wasn't open! We'll be there!
