Page 1 of 2 Get off Microsoft Email.
First of all, I am not a Microsoft hater. They have revolutionized our world and the vast majority of it was for the good.
How to stop using the programs listed above?
SWITCH TO WEBMAIL !!! (GMAIL, YAHOO, LIVE ) Just click one and get started. I like Gmail the best!
1. 05-23-2008 02:36 Is it possible to get all my contact from Outlook exprerss to my new webmail account? 2. 05-23-2008 10:01 That would ultimately depend on your webmail account. Though I'm not certain about all of them, Gmail (my preferred webmail provider) does allow you to import contacts from Outlook/Outlook Express. First you'll have to export them from Outlook Express as a CSV(comma separated value). Then you should be able to import them into your webmail account. Perhaps more detailed instructions could be another post to come. 3. 05-23-2008 13:05 it's easy to get away from microsoft as a whole or just outlook and express...use LINUX or UNIX :) 4. 05-24-2008 00:15 wow, super great idea to have tech tips. i'm completely ignorant in this area. i've had a gmail account for years and never used it because everyone has my outlook addy. can gmail be set up to receive all the e-mails from a former address? like forwarded or something? 5. 05-24-2008 00:29 Jadybug, you can most definitely use your gmail to receive your standard outlook accounts. Just go into settings and then under "Get mail from other accounts:" click on "Add another email account". Then follow the steps. This will allow you to access any email account that you have the username and password for. Gmail really is the best!! You will Love it once you get it all figured out. 6. 05-24-2008 09:32 thanks cody! that sounds easy enough...even for me. i'll try it. 7. 05-30-2008 10:14 For what its worth, Gmail allows you to use your old email address. (Under accounts in the setup) 8. 06-05-2008 16:40 I agree that webmail (particularly gmail) is outstanding free software, and that Outlook Express is dated and feature poor. However, your advice mainly pertains to home users. Business users, especially large enterprise users would never want to have sensitive "internal" mail floating around on the Internet. And gmail is free for a reason.. you are constantly bombarded with targeted advertising. To take that a step further, Yahoo and Live mail will append footers to your messages further promoting their web services. Users beware! 9. 06-05-2008 17:41 For 6 gig of free storage space, one of the most advanced spam filters available and some of the easiest and most intuitive filtering/labeling capabilities, I'll take the "bombardment." It's also more secure than you think, though I could understand why some huge corporations might avoid it. Those people most likely aren't looking for alternatives, though, as they probably have an in-house mail server and an IT guy. I don't know about you, but I don't even notice ads on the internet nowadays. 10. 06-10-2008 15:35 I don't notice the ads, either, Mitchell. I have been using gmail since it was in beta and it is by far my favorite of the services. |
