Almost Gourmet with AJ - Dreamcicle Salad PDF Print E-mail

Here is a cheap and easy dessert the whole family will love.  This mandarin orange jello salad taste just like those old orange vanilla dreamcicles we are all to familiar with.  You’ll never have leftovers with this one.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pk sugar free orange jello
  • 1 ll oz can mandarin oranges (drain and save juice)
  • 1 3oz pk cream cheese
  • 1 regular size container cool whip thawed

What to do:
Dissolve Jello in 1 cup boiling water then add juice from oranges.  Beat in cream cheese.  ( I have found the blender, or Magic Bullet works best for this just add jello and cream cheese and blend until all mixed it will look strange at first but by the end it will be a creamy orange color.  Let cool until syurpy.  Fold in oranges and cool whip.  Chill several hours or over night and serve.

Serve it up:
There are no real directions just dig in and enjoy!

Change it up:

Try different types of jello and fruit Pineapple is good too.

I make something similar using cottage cheese instead of cream cheese.

I made a cool appetizer/dessert similar to this for a bridal shower over the weekend. I just used cool whip with a 1/2 cup of powdered sugar to thicken, lime juice and lime zest from one large or two small limes. I made napoleons out of it with puff pastry crust topped with a slice of kiwi, mandarin orange, whipped cream mixture and a sprinkle of almonds. They were fantastic. You could skip the pastry and just mix in the oranges and kiwi for an ambrosia salad type dessert too.

One other substitute is the cheesecake jello mix - thickens nicely and gives the taste of cheesecake without baking! Put it in little pie shells, top with fruit - instant dessert!

Ok. I have to stop now - pregnant woman getting the munchies!
