This section is still very much under construction.

What we plan on doing here is compiling helpful tips and resources for doing your part to help the environment.

We've got some columnists lined up, but if you'd like to contribute to this section (or any section for that matter), shoot us an email.

For now, here are some helpful links and a spreadsheet of all of the recyclers in town:

Kansas E-Waste  - a program dedicating to recycling electronics like old computers.

Here is a PDF of all of the local recyclers with marked changes from last year's.

Single-Stream Recycling coming soon. PDF Print E-mail

Starting in February, the city of Hutchinson will be switching to a single-stream recycling system, which means all of your recyclables may be placed loose into a special recycling cart. This promises to be so much simpler than the blue bag sorting system.

To get started with this, just call Stutzman Refuse Disposal at 620-662-2559 and request your recycling cart. It comes free with your trash service, but you've got to request it.

More information can be found on the city of Hutchinson's recycling page right here

Also, don't forget about the What's Up Hutch Green Channel. It's still a work in progress, and we would love to hear any insights you may have into going green. We would love to hear from you. Jennifer Randall has already shared with us some inspiring ideas for green giving over the holiday season. Don't forget her ideas for the next birthday, wedding or whatever you need to get a gift for. You could save some money and the environment at the same time. Literally no downside.

As you may know, AT&T recently started offering their wireless service to the Hutchinson community, and a new AT&T authorized retailer, Communications Connection opened its doors at 1504 East 17th Ave. So if you’re going to the store to purchase a new phone for yourself or as a gift this holiday season, don’t forget to recycle your old device. It can help the planet while helping troops at the same time. How can it do both? AT&T supports Cell Phones for Soldiers, a charity that uses the proceeds from recycling to buy prepaid phone cards for active duty military members overseas.
