Mitchell's writing talent has already been discovered by many. We offered him a spot to write his thoughts in exchange for a teddy bear, and he agreed. He writes this column with the teddy bear by his side.
Brace yourself, America, for the SWeet TEA Party (Seriously, We're Taxed Enough Already) may be planning their next demonstration - laden with benign rage and misused words ending with the suffix "ist". The rest of America will most likely be able to do nothing but stare in awe as cases upon cases of Mountain Dew and Diet Pepsi splash into harbors on both coasts.
Perhaps nothing this extreme will happen, and I'm just painting this mental picture for the humor of it. Maybe I just saw mention of the sugar tax, thought of the whole "SWeet TEA Party" thing and just didn't want a good acronym and pun (not to mention a jab at the irrational TEA Party people) to go to waste. My friends will tell you that's most likely the case. But I also have an opinion on the situation, and would like to hear other's.
We hope that everyone is going to have a safe and fun New Years Eve. More importantly, we hope everyone has a fantastic 2010.
We've been kicking around ideas for resolutions, and have decided that our resolution is to continue working to make this site more useful, entertaining and just generally better for our readers and friends. We will keep working on that.
2009 wouldn't have been nearly as cool for us if it weren't for all of you, so a big thank you to everyone out there for reading, conversatin' and submitting to our humble little site. We look forward to spending 2010 with all of you.
A couple of opinion pieces have gone up on the Hutch News over the last week that have irked me a little bit. The liberal side of me finds both pieces pointless and abhorrent, which is to be expected if you read the pieces and especially if you know me. But, more than that, the sensible side of me looks at these pieces and thinks "seriously?". I'd like to address these pieces here today, and if the folks who wrote them see this article and feel the urge to further elaborate on their point or even if they want to make further negative blanket statements about liberals, Obama, whatever, they're free to do so in the comments section.
I'd like to point out that it's not the fact that the Hutchinson News published these that bothers me. That's the News' job, and they do it just fine.
We hope all of our friends have a happy Thanksgiving. Take the day to sit around and catch up with the family members you can stand, while attempting to avoid awkward conversation with the ones you can't. Go ahead and test out the threshold of the waist band of those pants. Try to stay awake through the football games.
But most of all, don't forget to reflect on the things for which you are thankful.
We at What's Up Hutch have much to be thankful for.
Alright, so Halloween is tomorrow. You've got your Power Rangers costume (what? they're not cool anymore?) all together, and you're just looking for something to do to have a good time.
Let's see if I've got any helpful suggestions for you. How about ...
Boo at the Zoo at the Carey Park Zoo? Take you kids dressed in costume to Trick or Treat.
Hey, if you've got a cool costume that you want to show off this year, shoot us pictures via email. We'll post them next week.
And for some morning reading, Amy and Edie at the Hutch News asked earlier this week if you made your own Halloween costume this year. They got some good responses, and the article is up right here.
