We all have them. Stop and think about it. I have lots but today one stood out like a “shining star”. She’s not a brilliant teacher, a great politician, nor a worldly leader.
I’d like to know how snow got into the mix of Christmas celebrations. The Babe in the manger made his appearance in Bethlehem, an area of the Middle East that sports date palms, sunshine, and a near Mediterranean climate. When did snowflakes, frosted window panes and sleigh bells enter the picture? I have a feeling it was about the time Christmas trees, olde English carols, Kriss Kringle and Father Christmas became a part of holiday traditions in Europe, where snow is more likely to be a part of the December scene.
You may have noticed that we have put a new commenting system in place. We kind of had to, because our site was innundated with spam comments starting on Saturday night. So much so that we actually had to temporarily disable comments because they were so hard to keep up with.
Sheila and Mike Bradshaw first heard of Pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church right before the Saddleback Forum debate between then Presidential candidates Senators Barack Obama and John McCain. The impression they were given by blogs and news sources they followed was that they didn't like him. Pastor Warren stood against essentially everything they, as Democrats, stood for. His views on many social issues, including gay rights, women's rights and stem cell research not only conflicted with theirs, but completely appalled them.
Here are some movies from my childhood that I've thought about recently that I really want to see again.
Of course, part of me is excited to give in to the nostalgia and re-watch them, but another part of me is scared that I will only taint my memory of it and wonder what the heck I was thinking.
