Thank you so much if you commented on my last article!  I am going to base this one on steroids.  For my fifth grade class, we had to write a letter to one of the presidential candidates on their views or opinions. I wrote to Hillary Clinton and asked what she thought about all of the people that are using steroids, I haven't got a reply yet, but when I do I will let you know.

We will go with Marion Jones to begin with, I hate it that she upset every girl or boy that loved her and dreamed of being a track star just like her.  Or the in-line speed skater Corey Gahan, his father had been giving him shots of steroids since he was only 13 years old. He didn't know what was happening he just thought that his father was giving these to make him stronger, but his dad was using them to cheat.  This is sad that this kid was getting accused of using steroids when he had know idea what they were or that he was even using them.  I would like to hear your input on this too, so please comment! Thanks!

Salthawk Kid,

I think it's cool you care so much. I enjoy reading the 11 year old perspective on this. Keep the columns coming and if Hillary does respond, well... Just let us know. That would be real cool.

As a mom, I can't imagine where the tipping point occurs to make you think it's ok to inject your child with steroids to make him better. Success is a wonderful thing... especially when there are struggles, falls, and last places along the way - those are what life is made of and it's how we learn. Success is NOT winning all the time, at all costs.

Great post! I do think that some parents expect way to much of their kids. What they do not realize is that steroids is an addiction and they are setting their kids up for future disappointments. Winning is great, however losing can also be great. You now if you did the best you could you are a winner!

My dad used to hit me in the head with books, because he thought it would make me smarter.

Seriously, though. I'm sure that when Corey Gahan's dad was giving him steroids, in his own weird way, he thought he was helping. What he was really doing was working toward destroying every last shred of moral fiber Corey had by setting the wrong example.

In my opinion, it's a really bad idea to set a completely amoral example for your child, whilst feeding him steroids.

Ever heard of Frankenstein's monster?

This is sad, it's really sad when I watch six very healthly hard working grandchildren who love basketball, football, dodgeball, soccer, volleyball, softball, and track and do it with the God given abilities they have - and do very well with those abilities. They get tired, they sweat, sometimes they come in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th - sometimes they lose - but it's all fair and all on their own abilities and hard work. I watch them practice hard, I watch them study the game and the other players, I watch them play smart and fair. No drugs!!! That's crazy - I'm glad there are rules and ways to check these things out! A PROUD GRANDMA!
