I was not born in Hutchinson, Kansas, though I have lived here for a long time, I was born in Camp Pendleton, California.  The reason I was born there was because my dad was a proud Marine for 4 years. I grew up around big, tough, and wonderful Marines.  I still get to see my Dad's friends and Marines almost every year. In fact, I still know two men that are fighting for us right now.

The reason I am writing about this subject is because a local radio station is doing an awesome thing for those men and women.  Matt and Arock on 106.1 KXKU are collecting items to send over to platoons in Iraq.  They are in serious need of lip balm, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes. They have no where to get these things from so they need us to send them, badly.  Toilet paper is also a need because it's not very advanced in Iraq.  You can also bring soldiers things that would remind them of home.  Slim Jims are also popular with the troops.  The troops love things like crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, and playing cards.

Thanks Salthawk Kid for letting us know how we can support those fighting for our freedom in the US. Your info can help others around the US start similar campaigns to send items to the troops overseas. My town, San Antonio, sends deflated soccer balls so that the soldiers can give them to the children in their areas the soldiers patrol. Everyone's efforts to support our troops are needed and definitely appreciated. I commend you for your efforts in letting us know about this issue!

Thanks Salthawk Kid.

Your doing a great thing for our troops - spreading the word and helping more folks hear about what they can do to help our own.

...and Kim - I read about the soccer balls in the latest American Legion magazine. A big thumbs up to you and yours too.

Yesterday, my grandparents an I, went and spent some money buying stuff for the Marines. When, we went to drop it off at the radio station, the people there were very appreciative. It made me feel AMAZING that I was helping those men out.

I just re-read the comment that I just wrote and I realized that I forgot to credit the women in the Marines too. Way to go girls!
