Salthawk Kid on books PDF Print E-mail

Ever since I started kindergarten I have been in love with books. I would read them when ever I could, whether it was to myself or somebody else.  I also love to read books that other people suggest.
I just read a REALLY good book called "The Cupid Chronicles".  It is in the series of the Wedding Planners Daughter.  I need some more books to read over the summer, so if you just read or have read a really good book tell me the title and I will try to read it and tell you what I think about it.

Also if you would like to hear my opinion on any subject, please tell me also.

Thanks,

Salthawk Kid

I know in my house we are in to Junie B Jones and the Treehouse something or others. The Chronicles of Narnia remains one of my fave series--Prince Caspian being the best!

I was a fan of "A Wrinkle in Time" and subsequent books by Madeline L'Engle.

The Black Stallion and other books by Walter Farley are great for horse lovers.

Similarly Marguerite Henry also writes in the horse genre with Misty of Chicoteague and other books. Marguerite Henry's books are more appropriate for younger children - about age 8 and older, but they are a fun read if you like horses. I sill have all of mine and read them from time to time.

I read The Outsiders in 7th grade and enjoyed it immensely. The Diary of Anne Frank is also good. These books deal with some difficult issues, but I don't think they're inappropriate for an 11 year old.

I was also always (and still am) a fan of National Geographic magazines. If your family doesn't have a subscription, the library probably has one. It's a great way to learn about all sorts of different places and cultures, and they also have articles about different plants and animals.

I LOVED the Little House on the Prairie books when I was your age, Salthawk Kid.

Make that 2 votes for Little House on the Prairie. My grandmother gave me a set that was owned by my great-grandmother - a grade school teacher. After moving to Kansas in October from South Carolina, I re-read the series. It definately helped me have a better understanding of the Midwest.

Although I must say, one of the books talks about the Ingalls family fording the Arkansas River. The story made the river seem huge! I was very disappointed when I moved out here and discovered that the Ark River is little more than a muddy creek. Its one of the smallest rivers I've ever seen.

Warning: Current state of geological features may be different than described in "Little House on the Prairie".

FFS,

The Arkansas River used to be much much more than it is now. Now that you live in Kansas you have to hate everyone in Colorado for stealing our water. Please Please no one get mad at me I was making I joke I don't know the details.

*Cries*...Hate? HATE??? Cody how could you! *sob* I'm telling all my friends you're a Colorado-hater! I expect a full-blown video appology.

hehehehehehehe

Couldn't help myself - my social filter must be disengaged today.

Although I must say, I went to Colorado in February and I would find it very hard to hate the Coloradians. Can I just hate the Arkansans instead?

I loved all of the Beverly Cleary books. I would recommend checking them out at the library.

The Hobbit is probably a good read for an 11 year old. You might get lost in the rest of the Lord of the Rings but a good read at some point.

I was already into Steven King about that age but I remember reading "The 6th Grade Can Really Kill You" and Pippi Longstockings (Does anyone know who she is anymore?)

Here is an interesting website that recommends books by grade: http://www.carolhurst.com/ titles/6th.html

Here's another: http://www.education- world.com/summer_reading/ 6th_grade.shtml

My kids are just not quite old enough to be reading at that level and I think you're a little old for Junie B. Jones.
