Here's the deal...

Rcat is here to stay.  Whether you think it's a good resource and use of time/money, it's not going anywhere so......

We at Whatsuphutch.com would like to see Rcat be a little better, but at the same time we think it is a current resource that more people should be using.

Standard political philosophy would be this: "Let's get more tax dollars to make Rcat better to get more people to ride it".

We at whatsuphutch.com think there is a better way...

stuffthebus.jpg

Our philosophy is "Let's get more people ride Rcat now... and get more money into the sytem that way, and at the same time use our voice to suggest ways to make it better so even more people will ride it which leads to more money for Rcat to make the sytem better and then more people will ride it and...."

We will help fix the problem with people power and hopefully not create more tax burden. Heck maybe we can even lessen the tax burden that the current sytem creates by increasing fee collection from usage. Who knows?

So... We thought up this idea called:

Whatsuphutch.com presents "Stuff the Bus" Day.

It's gonna happen June 19th, 2008 which also happens to be National "Dump The Pump day." Click here for more info on "Dump the Pump".

dtp_banner_08.jpg

 Here's how it's gonna work:

We are gonna ask everyone in Reno County to ride an Rcat bus to somewhere on June 19th, 2008. Everyone.... (We know everyone won't, but they are invited)

We are gonna give ya a cool sticker if you do. I mean like the best sticker you ever saw...

Then we want you to come back here and tell us about it. We have a commitment from Lynn Kiker who is the Director of Rcat to listen to our comments and concerns and make an attempt to address them. She's isn't saying that will fix every problem we come up with... She isn't even saying she will fix any... but we have her ear and we should take advantage of it. I think she is the type of person who will make her best effort to really listen.

We are hoping to accomplish 6 things:

1. Increased awareness of Rcat.

2. Develop a list of improvements that people want that might lead to more people using Rcat.

3.Save everybody just a little gas money that day.

4. Give foreign oil billionaires the finger that day.

5. Show folks a very easy way to help reduce carbon emissions if that is something they want to do.

6. Hopefully increase usage of Rcat on an ongoing basis.

If you are a:

Kid who doesn't have a drivers license...

Hemp wearing, tree hugging greenie...

Tax payer who wants to pay less taxes...

American who wants to decrease dependance on foreign oil...

Car owner who hates the price of gas...

Bored citizen who just wants to get out and try something new...

Grumpy jerk who just needs something new to gripe about...

you should be thrilled about the idea of promoting Rcat, so get off your butt and do it on June 19th or tell us in the comments why you won't.

In the comments section below we really need you to show support. There is a little blue button with an envelope icon at the top right of this page that will allow you to email it to everyone you know and tell them to come comment and show support.  Tell everyone and we can no kidding help to make something better in Hutch.

Add-on: We added everything below here at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 17th:

Click here for a pdf. of some of our questions already answered by Lynn Kiker, Director of Rcat.

The Dispatch number is 620-694-2913

Rcat's Website is here.

Link to Route Map here

PLEASE!!!!! Keep your questions going here in the comments field as we have made arrangements with Lynn Kiker to present them to her so our liitle campaign here doesn't lead to tons of phone calls to their office asking the same question.

i totally agree that pouring a lot of money into rcat is not going to increase its usage. a great way to get more people to use public transportation is by encouraging them to try it out and see if it works for them. so let's all get behind this idea and stuff the buses on "dump-the-pump" day! have i ever taken the rcat bus? no--but i will next thursday!

I'm all over this idea. It's great.

I don't need to use it for my work commute, but I'll find a reason to get on there.

OK folks...

Time to step up, this is a no-brainer. There is no legitimate reason to not email this page to everyone in your address book. There is no reason no to support this. Send it all over. Let's all give Rcat a whirl that day and then come back here and talk about it.

If you have good reason not to support this, let us know in the comments below.

amen cody! i e-mailed everyone i know and found out that i really need to go through my address book--i don't remember half the people in it!

if everyone makes a goal to tell all their friends about this, we can make our goal even if most of the people opt not to participate. we're not shooting for the moon people! we just want 100 new riders. we can do this!!!

I love the bus! I was one of the first to get a route map and go to the mall with my neighbor and 5 children between us. However, we almost couldn't ride home. Turns out you have to carry your own car seats and the first driver didn't tell us that so we begged the second driver to let us on so we could get home. So please check on this if you have kids so you don't get denied a ride--maybe they have child seats now?

tasha,

no, people still have to bring their own seats. the same problem came up last week at work when one of our customers didn't have her carseat. remember your carseats if you have kiddos with you!

I'm thinking about doing this because it sounds really cool. But it would actually be way inconveinent. I live a mile and a half from work, I leave at 8:30 and get to work about 8:35. It takes me about 5 minutes and costs me about 25 cents. If I rode the RCAT I would either have to get on at 8am or 9am then ride for 20 minutes around town and pay 80 cents to get to my destination about 14 blocks away. But I think it's such a good cause that I might actually wake up an hour earlier, and ride around the bus all morning so I can get to work 15 minutes earlier.
