Well hello there, and welcome to my What’s Up Hutch blog! I was
approached by the wonderful folks at WUH to start a column about exercise,
weightlifting, and Mixed Martial Arts . I’ve also totally ripped off the
title from my creative brother! (Thanks Joe!) I admit it, I am an exercise
freak! I have been addicted for about 10 years now. I use to weigh 210 lbs.!
The end of my senior year of high school, and first year of college, I was
packing on the pounds for sure ( I have pictures to prove it, I might post
‘em someday). Today, I’m a lean, mean, 160 lbs. of twisted steel,
and sex appeal ;) (sorry) So, how did I do it? Just like any exercise and diet
plan, it wasn’t easy. It took time to put the weight on, and it took time
to lose it!
My plan with this blog, is to update you on my lifting programs, provide
you with the motivation to keep working at your routine, educate on body
building and weight loss supplements, and even throw in updates on what’s
going on with myself, and my brother’s (professional MMA fighter, Joe
“The Nose” Wilk) life in Mixed Martial Arts. I don’t claim to
be an expert on health and exercise, but I know what has worked for me, can
absolutely work for someone else.
I have the secret to success
in the gym! If you want to attain the perfect body that you always wanted,
this will undoubtedly get you to where you want to be. It’s not steroids,
nor is it bodybuilding supplements, or fat burners. Get yourself a training
partner! Better yet, get two or more training partners. Having someone
to workout with will do wonders for your routine. You are also more
likely to stick with your program, as a training partner should motivate
you far beyond the point that you can motivate yourself.
I had enough of being overweight. I hated the way I looked and felt. Adjusting what I was eating was the start. I was a 30th Street McDonald’s regular. A soda swilling, oreo eating, chip crunching, buffet busting son of a gun, wooo! (Yes, the Ric Flair wooo IS necessary) I am blessed with a great amount of self discipline, and I knew I had what it took to eliminate my junk food diet cold turkey. I did just that, but I also started an exercise program. My brother had just started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and enticed me to join as well. This would start my rapid weight decline, and begin Joe & Sam’s path in Mixed Martial Arts (more on that another time). Week by week I started dropping the weight. Eight months later, I weighed in at 135 lbs. I stayed that way, fluctuating between 130 lbs. and 135 lbs. for about 3 years.
